That’s why we have such a large focus on somatic and sensorimotor psychotherapy. We welcome and center the body as an integral source of information; there’s a change that can only happen through engaging in bodywork, adjusting our body postures, and consciously shifting the way emotions are held in our bodies. By doing so we’re able to coordinate all facets of us to move uniformly towards growth, leading to a more integrated, and holistic self as we move through the world. Many folx I work with have also experienced histories of trauma (not just trauma with a capital T) and have had to navigate invalidating environments. My work is grounded on the perspective that how we story our lives is incredibly powerful, and it is through these stories that we make sense of the world, ourselves, and our experiences. These stories can be taught, inherited, passed down, adopted, melded, and combined. Some stories are helpful and empowering, and some stories can cause us to feel trapped, frustrated, and helpless. And for some stories that we have, we would rather them be forgotten, hidden, and ignored because of how much pain and shame these stories bring us.

We will continue to advocate with legislators that mental health care is health care and should be treated as such through explicit policy + coverage. Until then, we will be building tools as alternative access points for support and expanding the resources we have available for our community. If you have suggestions as to what might be useful for your wellness, please email us and let us know. We currently have plans to build out free or lower-cost community-based programming as well.
